Day 7 - 8, The Chilean Fjords

Day 7. Happy Thanksgiving! Today’s agenda is to relax and enjoy the beauty of the Chilean Fjords. It’s a cloudy day. However, we are still able to see everything to a certain degree, as you will be able to see from a few of these pictures. Sunrise over the fjords is beautiful.
We can’t help but wonder if the cloud cover is hampering a fuller distance view of the Andes Mountains in the background.
These little 55 gallon drum looking lighthouses are scattered along the passage.
There are all sorts of brilliant breaks in the clouds.
Later in the afternoon the clouds clear for the day.
It is a fairly uneventful day as far as being able to tell stories and such. Relaxation, conversation and photography are the keywords of the day. Dinner time arrives. Our table mates are still MIA. There is something on tonight’s menu called “Traditional Thanksgiving Dinner”. It is Thanksgiving so how can we not? We can both say, without any hesitation, that this Thanksgiving dinner was hands down the worst meal in so many respects. The turkey is a processed baseball shaped mound with white meat surrounding a dark meat core. The stuffing is… well it’s hard to find the right words. It’s just wrong. And the brussel sprouts. Did you catch that? Brussel sprouts! Of the 2,000+ passengers on this ship, only 623 are from the states. We discuss how sad we are that there must be quite a few people from other nations ordering the “Traditional Thanksgiving Dinner” just to get a feel for what we eat once a year when celebrating our land. They might as well have served chitlins for the love of Moses!
We go back to the room because, since we are 5 hours ahead of our Pacific Standard Time, the Seattle / Dallas football game is now on. We find this Zen bunny on our bed.
Todd’s Seahawks are, once again this season, being demoralized on worldwide television. Breathe deep. Not working. He can’t bear to watch so we decide to go pay the exorbitant fee for a few minutes of internet usage on one of the ship’s computers. We quickly send out a few e-mails to let people know we’re alive and well. Afterwards, we continue taking in the sights and relaxing until bedtime.

Day 8. This morning is more fjord travel as we cruise through the Concepcion Canal, the Estebon Canal, and the Straight of Nelson C. Castro.
In the afternoon we sail through the Straight of Magellan. Locally, Magellan is pronounced “mah-gah-ZSAHN-eese”.
There is nothing new today from yesterday; just another relaxing day with beauty drifting past. The only difference tonight is that we decide to have dinner in the Windjammer CafĂ©. This is the buffet restaurant. We choose it to reset our palates after last night’s debacle of the holiday meal. Plus, it is formal night and we really don’t feel like getting all dressed up. Just a very slow pace all day long.
We bump into one of the men from the Cruise Critic site and ask him how he enjoyed his stay in Puerto Montt. He tells us that he went with the rest of the Cruise Critic gang on a group outing. They rented a tour bus and went all over the place for a very reasonable price. Todd faked a smile and said, “Good for you.” This would probably have been harder to take if we hadn’t had such a nice time ourselves and if we hadn’t found that market with all those great prices. But we did have a good time. We don't say anything and realize that we cannot count on that group for anything in any future ports. When we return to our cabin we find Horton perched on our bed.
We see the television reports of violence at shopping centers back home; even a stampede at a WalMart. It is very nice to be here right now.
